Qatar Malayali Conferences have become one of the biggest gatherings of Indian expatriate community in the Middle East.
Qatar Malayali Conference had a humble beginning one and half decades ago. That event attracted hundreds of people as it was the first of kind in Qatar at that time, and the participation has grown to many folds over the past decade. In the fifth Qatar Malayali Conference, thousands of people visited the “Indo-Arab Cultural Exhibition” alone.

Leelavathy, M P Veerendra Kumar, M F Hussain, Kamala Surayya, various business magnets, media icons, and other eminent personalities from the socio cultural life attended various past conferences.
Qatar, like other Gulf countries, is home for many Keralites. The Kerala community in the Gulf represents a cross-section of the society of their home state in India, and, although comprising different groups with different religious faiths and ways of life, still carries a common “Malayali” identity.
Qatar Malayali Conferences, being held at regular intervals, have become extremely popular in Qatar among Indian expatriate community. People from all walks; irrespective of cast, creed and faith are being involved at every stage of the event. Issues of common people are always discussed in the conferences, and brought to the attention of the visiting Indian authorities including ministers. Entire arrangements for the program are being made by common men as voluntary work.
Expatriate Indian community living in Qatar or elsewhere, in general, wants to keep their cultural and linguistic ties with the people back home intact even while they are living thousands of miles away from their homeland. Qatar Malayali Conferences give them an opportunity to meet together, and participate in the activities, and listen to the programs.
Qatar Malayali Conferences are always concluded with the humanitarian activities in Kerala in a large scale. Medical aids were provided to critically ill patients in the past through Pain and Palliative clinics, follow-up works also been done in this field.
Increased participation in the conferences from the Malayali community has helped in creating a common platform for the community members to interact with eminent personalities, leaders, and ministers from India, and to take up their issues and problems with them. Qatar Indian Islahi Centre is a voluntary organization of Indian expatriates living in Qatar. QIIC has been working in the state of Qatar since 1981. It is a registered organization operating under the supervision of FANAR at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic affairs and NORKA, and working under the auspices of Indian Embassy. To achieve the noble goals set by the organization, Qatar Indian Islahi Centre is organizing diversified activities in regular intervals. Religious amity conferences, Seminars, Blood donation camps, Health Awareness programs, Students conferences, Iftar Meets, Study camps, Eid Meets, QLS Meets are some of the major events organized by QIIC in the past. It has been conducting regular study classes, public lectures and discussions at various places.
Qur’an Learning Courses are offered in various centers across Qatar by QIIC, weekly Friday classes are being conducted in the Malayalam language, and handled by scholars. Separate classes for ladies are also made available by the women's wing. Study classes are conducted by QIIC throughout the year in locations including remote places like Shamal, Al Khor, Dukhan, Mesaieed, etc.
Qatar Indian Islahi Centre has had many a first to its credit; it introduced ‘Moral Education’ system to the expatriate schools in Qatar, and is now running moral schools for children in various parts of Qatar. QIIC started Iftar meets for the Indian expatriates in Qatar, and Eid meet and talk in Malayalam after Eid prayers at designated places.
QIIC has recently launched a unique distance education system for learning Noble Quran, called “The Light (Velicham)”. The participants can learn Quran and write examinations at the comfort of their homes, and will be evaluated and progress will be checked at regular intervals.
